Prescott, AZ – June 12, 2026 – Former Prescott Police Officer Brian Sutton has been found guilty of manslaughter for the June 8, 2024 killing of Daniel Leslie, an unarmed 34-year-old man shot outside his Prescott home.

The conviction follows a case that drew significant public attention after body camera footage showed Leslie calmly asserting his right not to speak with police before Sutton opened fire. Leslie was unarmed and walking toward his home when he was shot.

“This verdict is a significant step toward justice for Daniel and his family,” said Richard Lyons, attorney for the Leslie family. “The jury recognized what the evidence showed: Daniel Leslie was unarmed, posed no immediate threat, and should never have been killed. While no verdict can undo this tragedy, accountability matters.”

“My brother Daniel was a good man, and he should still be here,” said Patrick Leslie. “For two years, our family has lived with the pain of losing him. This verdict won’t bring him back, but it sends a clear message that his life mattered and that what happened to him was wrong.”

The Leslie family continues to pursue civil claims against the City of Prescott and other responsible parties arising from Daniel’s death.
